Workshop

  1. Workshop

    Where the work is born

Three places where the work is born: the workshop, the home studio and the landscape around them.

  2. Table

    Where the material is worked

At the table, time changes its rhythm. When Juan Manuel works the clay, the rest of the world falls away: only the piece and the hands remain. He lives it as a form of meditation.

  3. Home

    Life, thought and creation

A piece is only fully understood in the place where it lives: by a window, near other objects, in the light of each hour. There it reveals what it offers beyond its use.

  4. Landscape

    The mountains

From the Ocejón, the highest peak of its range, the land descends unhurriedly to the plain. On its slopes, at 1,030 metres, lies Tamajón: the landscape that gives him part of his material.

  5. Earth

    Stone and earth

The mountains are slate and, around Tamajón, the ground changes colour: red sandstones, white and ochre sands, pale limestones. From this land come the clays, stones, wood and old nails that find their way into his work.

    The village

Where the black stone meets the pale earth. Juan Manuel has been bound to this village since childhood, and today he works here.

Look at his pieces calmly and you will recognise this landscape: in their earthy tones, in their rough surfaces.
